CLF students have a reputation for making extraordinary things happen in their communities and the world. Below are just a few examples of how our students have led the way with passion, determination, and leadership.
CLF students with an interest in biology dove into researching a nearby creek and discovered that 90% of the organisms on its banks were invasive. They took their college-level research to the local government and were able to get the support they needed from the city council to start a restoration of the area.
CLF student Eric noticed that gang presence was a real threat to his classmates. So he took his passion for music and developed an afterschool program in which students listened to tunes, mixed beats, and even raised funds to buy equipment—keeping the music on and the kids off the street.
After being hospitalized herself for mental illness, CLF student Taylor was motivated to help her classmates with their own depression. Her passion led to initiating a two-day mental health retreat with powerful guest speakers, reflection, journaling, student resources, and more.
After discovering that the only dinosaur ever discovered in the state of Washington was the Suciasaurus Rex, CLF students organized an effort to make it the official state dinosaur. They brought a bill before the state legislature and in May of 2023, the Governor signed it into law.
